WOD Types: AMRAP, EMOM, For Time & Tabata Explained
AMRAP
As Many Rounds As Possible
Complete as many rounds of a set list of exercises within a fixed time. Great for building endurance and tracking progress — your score is the number of rounds completed.
AMRAP Timer →EMOM
Every Minute On the Minute
Perform a specific movement at the start of every minute, resting for the remainder. Develops pacing, consistency, and work capacity under fatigue.
EMOM Timer →For Time
Complete As Fast As Possible
A prescribed workout you complete as fast as possible under a time cap. Benchmarks like Fran (21-15-9) and Murph follow this format. Tests raw intensity and mental toughness.
For Time Timer →Tabata
High-Intensity Intervals
Alternating bursts of all-out effort (20-40 seconds) with short rest (10-20 seconds). Originally designed for VO2max improvement, Tabata is one of the most efficient conditioning formats.

WOD Generator — Frequently Asked Questions
What is a WOD?
WOD stands for "Workout of the Day." It's a term from cross-training and functional fitness that refers to a structured workout session with specific exercises, rep schemes, and time domains. WODs can follow formats like AMRAP (As Many Rounds As Possible), EMOM (Every Minute On the Minute), For Time, or Tabata intervals.
How does the WOD generator work?
Our algorithm selects exercises from a database of 100+ movements, ensuring variety through movement group constraints (no two exercises from the same pattern in one block), difficulty filtering, and equipment compatibility. It produces valid AMRAP, EMOM, For Time, or Tabata blocks with appropriate rep schemes and time caps.
What's the difference between AMRAP, EMOM, For Time, and Tabata?
AMRAP (As Many Rounds As Possible) gives you a fixed time to complete as many rounds of exercises as you can. EMOM (Every Minute On the Minute) assigns specific work at the start of each minute, resting until the next. For Time challenges you to complete a set workout as fast as possible under a time cap. Tabata uses intervals of intense work (typically 20-40 seconds) followed by short rest (10-20 seconds) for multiple rounds.
Can I export and edit the generated WOD?
Yes! You can export the WOD as a PNG image (standard or story format for social media), edit it in the visual Workout Builder for fine-tuning, or share it via a code to import it directly into the EVOX mobile app with all timers ready to go.
What does the anti-repetition system do?
The generator remembers exercises and block types from your recent generations. It avoids repeating the same movements and varies the workout format. If you regenerate multiple times without validating, it will ask you what you dislike so it can better adapt future workouts.
Can I generate a WOD without equipment?
Absolutely. Select the "Bodyweight" equipment option and the generator will only use exercises that require no equipment — air squats, push-ups, burpees, lunges, and more. You can also select "Minimal" for dumbbells and kettlebells only.
How often should I do WODs?
Most cross-training athletes train 3 to 5 days per week with 1-2 rest days. Beginners should start with 3 sessions and build up gradually. Vary between strength-focused and conditioning WODs throughout the week to avoid overtraining and ensure balanced development.
Is the WOD generator free?
Yes, the WOD generator is completely free to use with no limits, no account required. The EVOX mobile app is also free with no in-app purchases.
